MY BASKET OF GRIEF
Akinola Promise, in this thought-provoking poem talks about forgotten heroes of war whose labours of selfless sacrifices have been awarded no lasting monuments. Then, he brings the poem to an explosive end by revealing the ingratitude of a world to a Savior who died for it. I can't go on being strong, life's music no longer a sweet song. I am gripped with grief, and wish to wither like a leaf. I cried as others blew the horn, laying my brother who died in the war, after defending his uncaring country all day long.
